One Small Change #FitnessFriday

Today, I'd like to talk about my mom and how proud I am of her. She is wonderful and great and the most amazing person. She's also overweight and she knows it upsets me. I might possibly nag her about her weight the way she nags me about ....hmmm...well, everything mothers nag about. ;)

I love her so much I'm going to post this horrible picture of myself. Luckily she looks great so you can just ignore me.

The other day while in the car she said "I didn't have the sausage because it wasn't the turkey sausage." Woohoo! You see, it starts with one small change. Once you get comfortable with that then you try another. And you keep going forward until you've made a lifestyle change. If you have an all or nothing attitude it can be hard. It's too easy to give up and choose nothing. Make that small change and be proud of it.

There is nothing more that I want from my mother than to see her healthy. Nothing. Why? Because one day my grandchildren are going to grow up and I want to share as many moments as I can with her. There are so many more moments that I want to share with her that involve my children. When Colton and Lucas get married (one day in the far, far, far future -- not rushing you boys), I want to have my mom by my side. When they have their children. I want my mom to be the first to call me with the exciting news -- just like she did with baby Anna.

For as long as I can I want my mom by my side to share every single experience with me. And it starts with turkey sausage.

As for me and my small changes... Do you know that I have exercised in some way every day so far this year. Nope, not one day off. You may think it's no big deal but it is to me. So I'm just going to keep moving forward and see how far that can get me.

My Daily Mile report also had the best stats so far. Since the Daily Mile focus is on running it looks kinda slackerish (other than the workouts part) but it's still been the best one overall since I started. So my goal for the remainder of the month is just to have my miles go up each week. I'm not going to say by some ridiculous amount or anything at all crazy but just go up each week. Just more.

Because one small change at a time is all you have to do to change your life. Forever.

  1. Working out every day is great! No matter what the workout is...like you said, it starts with small changes. I also never underestimate the power of HABITS. I turned down a drink with a cute guy yesterday to go for a run and although I missed out on the guy (he will be around later), I feel great about myself because of the run!

  4. I love this post because I have been making small changes as well. I went from 0 days exercising to a regular 4-5 days a week with a trainer for one hour and now I am running. Who would have thought me running?

Congrats Mom!! Your small change will make a difference that will soon spread like wildfire in your life and the lives of people around you. :)

  9. This is exactly my thinking with my parents and in-laws. They're gradually making small healthy changes. Yay!

  10. Go, mom! Baby steps are pretty awesome too, even if they don't get the respect they deserve.

  11. That's awesome, just one step at a time! Great job on exercising every day this year too! The small change I've made is to cut out diet soft drinks. I haven't had any, and I was really addicted to them. I'm going to try to keep that up!

  12. Congratulations!!! I totally agree that it's small steps that lead to big changes. When you make small steps, you can get comfortable and not feel like you've turned your whole world upside down.

  14. I am sooo like your mom. Glad she discovered turkey sausage, it is really good. I have made lots of changes but old habits continue to creep back in but never for long. At least my weight has not gone up for a couple years. Most recent small change to get back at it was go to half a sandwich with a cup of soup or fruit for a meal instead of a whole loaded sandwich. I am just as full but cut some calories. I also used to have a bowl of soup but decided a cup was enough and look for lower sodium and calorie soups.

  16. great post babe, I agree one small change makes all the difference. Before you know it, so much more has changed and you love it. I stopped adding sugar to my tea and use truvia. I stopped drinking soda and only drink water now. I don;t see a difference in my weight and size, but I feel better and that is what matters most.
