I Can Run a Half Marathon

half crazy

You should know by now that sometimes I wake up with crazy, half-baked ideas. This is my latest one. I can’t get it out of my head so that must mean I should give it a try. At least that’s my theory. I haven’t run in months and just started again this weekend. So that must mean I can run 13.1 miles, right? Yes, I know I’m slightly on the nutty side but let’s stay on the positive train here. Plus I’m not saying that I’m going to do it tomorrow. I’m going to do it on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the St. Louis Rock ‘n Roll Marathon. That seems like a realistic time frame. Right?

Esprit de She

Along the way I’m going to run the Esprit de She 10K as in Ambassador in July. This year I really plan on making it there. I am going to work my butt off training and coming up with the funds to race all my races this year. I gave up to quickly on 13 in 2013 because money wise doing 13 races was just out of my reach. It left me feeling unmotivated but now I wonder if I really did what I could to make those dreams come true. Like I told Jill when I signed up for 14 in 2014, if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. I know how to do that. I tried out for every single part to be in the fourth grade Christmas play. And even though I didn’t get a part, I’m going to muster up that same 10-year-old courage and just keep moving forward.

Since the only thing that stands between me and my goals is that crazy money train which stopped on me when my husband became disabled (don’t be sad for me, we’ll figure it out), I’m going to offer you a deal….

I love your drive and determination, I could barely fit in my one race this year and you had planned 13? And 14 next year! Kudos I can’t wait to hear more about it.

Well…I didn’t get anywhere near that. I’m going to do number 6 so I didn’t get anywhere near my goal. Unless you know of a bunch of free virtual races I can do before the end of the year. LOL!

      Thank you, Ashley!

But the real question is…am I funny? I just don’t have a good day until I’ve read one of your posts out loud and made my husband follow along. I think he’s heard more of your posts than mine!

Regina, thank you so much for the support! That is $10 a month so anytime between now and then end of the year you can start your 30 days for just $10. If you have any other questions, just let me know.

And you know what? Anywhere 5K just shut down and it’s so hard to find free virtual runs. I’m so sad about this. I wish I had the time to take over. :)

You have lots of time and you can totally do it! Way to go for shooting 14 in ’14 – you can do that too!! I wake up with crazy ideas and just got for them, what’s life if you can’t just go for it?! I may actually be running with you in R&R STL, if not I’ll be there to cheer you on!

I’m excited to actually try to really get my 14 in but they just shut down 5K Anywhere so now I’m feeling at a loss for free virtual runs because I can’t afford to pay for a bunch of runs. I’ll figure it out! If I spend too much time thinking about stuff I talk myself out of a lot of fun stuff.

      I hope you run R&R!

I thought it was plenty of time and if I mess around and don’t decide to do it now I’m afraid I’d wind up with not enough time. I think almost a year out is a logical place to make the decision. At least I hope so. :)

I’m not looking to break any records. Just finish before the shut the place down! LOL

At least you used to run before you decided to race. I was the girl who was always sick or had cramps too bad to allow her to run in high school. :)

I am working hard to make another Chicago trip happen. Since this one is on my dime it is a little rough but I think I can do it. I just don’t know where I want to stay. I really disliked the Chicago traffic.

Thank you, Kim. Now if I can magically run miles on the treadmill and enjoy it like you, I’ll have it in the bag. I used to love the treadmill until I actually started running outside this year. I don’t love it enough to venture out in the cold though. I’ll work up to that for next October.

My whole life is about crazy ideas right now – and chasing them. So I am all in on your idea to run a 13.1. Have a great time training. I may do a distance run myself this spring. We’ll see….

I know that you can run a half, I think it’s a reasonable goal and one that you are going to excel at. You work hard and smart and that will pay off!!!!

I definitely wake up with crazy ideas, frequently. I used to act on them without thinking- and sometimes still do but I have gotten better about letting it simmer for a few days before acting- although I still usually end up doing it anyways :)

Usually when I let things simmer I talk myself out of doing things so I tend to just go for them. I’m a worrier at heart so it’s easy for me to come up with a list of a million things that would keep me from doing something.

Thank you, Joi! My butt is kind of small so I really wish there was some way I could run my boobs off. LOL!

As I said to Laura, above, thinking just provides me fuel to not do things so I have to just move forward without all that thinking. I usually figure it out along the way.

Welcome to the half crazy train. :) I’m having a blast and have plans to do more halfs! You can totally do it!!

And for the 13 in 2013, I did a mixture of real life races and virtual races…that’s the only thing that has helped me reach that goal and not break my wallet. Just food for though for your 14 in 2014. :)

Thank you for the support, Maria!

I am horrible about remembering to do virtual races. It’s easier for me when I have some place to go.
